In 1915 the current Southern Cotton Oil Mill was built on a railroad spur in the small Georgia town of Athens. In the 100 years that have passed, many things have changed but the riveted steel, the stacked stone and the handmade brick remain. With them remain a link to a time gone by. One hundred years ago we ate, we lived, we worked and we walked together. Sure, Pulaski Exchange has rehabilitated a unique structure, but many good developers save old buildings. Over those same 100 years Athenians have saved a community. In a small town on a hill our scholars, our restaurants, our music, our art and our creative spirit endure.
Pulaski Exchange values what we already value as a city. This is a space that is intentional about who we are and who we want to be. It’s designed on a pedestrian scale with broad common areas. It includes multiple physical connections to existing throughways including our primary walking and biking path, The Greenway. It sits in the heart of the vibrant Pulaski Heights neighborhood and is an easy two block drive or walk to downtown Athens.
Inspiration has come from the markets of old Europe and the bustling souks of the Arab world. Pulaski Exchange includes over 20,000 sq.ft. of commercial space and 13 exclusive residential condominiums. The former mill will house the bulk of the commercial market. Two new buildings will include a mix of office and retail spaces on the ground level and residential units on the upper floors. A central outdoor plaza and pedestrian alleys tie the structures together and promote a cross pollination of use.
Pulaski Exchange is an experience unlike anything we’ve endeavored to create before. Experience the food, the drinks, the walk, the energy and the community. Experience Athens.
Pulaski Exchange is located at 600 Pulaski Street, Athens, GA 30601, just 1/3 mile from downtown Athens.
